Africa Has the Talent; So Why Are Companies Still Outsourcing Outside Africa?
Africa Has the Talent; So Why Are Companies Still Outsourcing Outside Africa?
A Nigerian startup founder once said something that honestly annoyed me:
"We outsourced our customer service roles to Asia because Africa isn’t ready yet."
Not ready?
That statement felt ironic considering he built his engineering team in Lagos.
And he’s not alone.
Every year, global companies spend over $92.5 billion on outsourcing services globally, according to Grand View Research.
Yet Africa receives only a tiny fraction of that market despite having:
Over 1.4 billion people
The world’s youngest workforce
Over 60% of the population under age 25 (United Nations projections)
Rapid internet growth
Increasing digital literacy
Meanwhile:
The Philippines earns over $35 billion annually from BPO services
India generates over $250 billion from outsourcing and IT services exports
Many African nations are still fighting the perception that they are "cheap labour markets" instead of strategic outsourcing hubs.
